Year 5 Curriculum

We look forward to teaching you and having a wonderful year, with lots of learning and lots of fun. We have many exciting books to read in English to inspire us in our own writing, including: The Lost Book of Adventure, King Kong and Where Once We Stood. In Maths we will be building on our previous knowledge and developing our reasoning and problem-solving skills.

So far this term we have delved into the depths of the jungle and written our own survival narratives, thinking carefully about how to engage our reader through ambitious vocabulary and different sentence structures. In maths, we’ve been working on our place value knowledge and rounding numbers to different powers of 10. In Science, we have recapped our learning on different states of matter and conducted some exciting experiments, including melting chocolate. We are going to build on our knowledge and learn about reversible and irreversible changes. In History, we are enjoying learning about the Ancient Greeks and we were particularly interested in learning about the different Gods and Goddesses.

Reminders

English and Maths Homework will be given out on a Friday alongside TTRS and Spellings. All homework will need to be returned by the following Wednesday. Children will be tested on their spellings every Thursday. Reading is an important part of their homework and all children are expected to read at least four times a week. Please ensure your child has their reading book and diary in school with them every day.

Thank you to all the parents and carers for supporting the children with their homework.
