The role of the governing board is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

· agree the aims and objectives for the school.

· approve the policies for achieving those aims and objectives.

· agree the targets for achieving those aims and objectives.

· monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives.

· be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend)

The headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework agreed by the governing board.

Governors are elected for a 4 year term and meet twice a term on Wednesdays, 4:15pm to 6:00pm. Each Governor is linked to a key objective for the school and undertakes a termly visit to meet with their link staff member. Governors may also be required to sit on various committees as required.

Training (online and in person) is provided by the Local Authority to provide Governors with the skills and knowledge needed to fulfil the role.
